The mission of "EAN Egypt" and the Member Organisations, is to take a leading role in establishing a global multi-industry system of identification and communication for products, services and locations based on internationally accepted and business led standards. The objective is to improve the efficiency of integrated logistics while contributing added value to partners involved, as well as to consumers.
 
Role of EAN-EGYPT
 
EAN Egypt offers collective representation for EAN user companies from industry and trade. Its role and functions are principally as follows:

  1. Manage the national EAN-UCC numbers bank by assigning unique identification numbers and EAN location numbers to companies wishing to use EAN standards for item identification, bar coding and EDI.
  2. Make EAN technical specification and EANCOM manuals available for members .
  3. Provide technical support and guidance to its member companies on the different EAN standards and their applications.
  4. Act as an interest group on behalf of its members by:
    • Collecting and exchanging experiences in the practical use of the EAN system among users .
    • Liaisons with the various economic interest groups , trade association ,government bodies, etc . in order to coordinate relevant developments
  5. Participating in the activities of EAN international and contributing to standards developments
  6. Inform trade and industry about EAN system . by building awareness , education and promotion .
Objectives of EAN-EGYPT
 
The objectobjective for which the association is established areis to:
  1. Administer and promote in EGYPT the EAN system of identification and communication for products, services and business location ;locations; for the benefit and more efficient operation of manufacturers, suppliers and retailers .retailers.
  2. Encourage the wide use of EDI and electronic commerce by businesses in EGYPT both with domestic and foreign trade partners and to promote the EANCOM standard in this regard .regard.
  3. Determine the manner in which the EAN system is to be adbministered in EGYPT and to advise all sectors of trade and industry upon its application and use .
  4. Comply with the rules of EAN -Iinternational and to participate in its standards development and work .
