The
role of EANCOM® in Metered Services
While
not considered to be a traditional supply chain because it is not
driven by a purchase order, and no physical goods are delivered
in discrete volumes, the supply of products, which are metered at
the point of consumption, can also be supported by the EAN standards.
The most obvious suppliers of metered products are the utility companies
in any country. Gas, water, telephones, electricity are supplied
to consumers on an "on-demand" basis.
The EAN standards can be used for identification purposes (e.g.,
locations of supply, consumers, products being supplied, etc) and
communication purposes. EAN International has published the "Metered
Services Invoice User Profile" to help companies to use the EANCOM®
invoice message to invoice the supply of products measured by meters.
